Press Release:
Treatment decision algorithms for tuberculosis screening and diagnosis
in children below 5 years hospitalised with severe acute malnutrition

Two articles from SAM TB-Speed Study focusing on TDAs for TB screening and diagnosis in children hospitalised with severe acute malnutrition have just been published in eClinicalMedicine.

Children under 5 hospitalised with severe acute malnutrition face a high risk of undiagnosed tuberculosis—often with fatal consequences.
As part of the TB-Speed SAM study, we developed and validated tailored treatment decision algorithms (TDAs), showing they can improve TB diagnosis and treatment rates in this vulnerable group.
Our findings demonstrate that TDA-based approaches are both accurate (Chabala et al.) and cost-effective (d’Elbée et al.), offering a promising way forward in high-burden settings
